Process Journal – I See the Clouds of September

Artist Statement

Everyone is born to be an isolated journey and encounter the scenery on a one-way single road. Until one day we thought our needs were met, it turned out just a small moment and we were still on this road but accidentally to be the passive side. The feeling cannot be taken from the difference between reality and the hope of the future, so suddenly into the endless shadows. But when you look up, you will find the sky was just covered by haze, the clouds still hanging in the sky, the better is just waiting for you. And you still as the same, only time will suit you up, to find the original destination.

This project means to a person, and people who are suffering in endless darkness and loneliness.

COVID-19 pandemic changed the public way of life with deprivation. The city seems to be an isolated island that people have to wander between home for a reason and asking for the only fresh air. However, the only existence cannot stop the darkness growing in somewhere can be seen, everyone seems to be shrouded in haze following the pressure. The unbalanced scale suffocated everyone, such as pushing various emotions expanding. The solitude, surprise and upset, the amplification of these feelings reminds of the previous environment where the subconscious is located. Those memories were tried to forget but showing up over and over again, until drowning in abysm.

The limited area walking becomes the only approach to develop a stacked foundation. And using the images of a different format in the same place to record my isolation could be an exact way that vents subconscious unease and demands. Meanwhile, focus on the de-populated images that make me use a perspective way to look around boundaries and relationships between people about self demands.

Process Journal

The Covid-19 pandemic enters everyone’s life with deprivation of the right that changed the way of living. The city seems to be an isolated island that people have to wander between home and a reason for asking the only fresh air. During the whole city lockdown that I started my confusion with the new semester topic selection.

  • What’s your ideal scenes when you arrive the end of life?
  • Filming about anxious, insecure feelings reflected images are messy and abstract.
  • Isolation journal

Firstly i selected the first topic which assumed to describe how I feel a part death, and wish to interview the people about their thoughts, and filming. However, when I done for several interviews i found most of people don not use to think of the things that drown by the heavy, I talked about death even the scenes where they wanna bury or close their eyes but that’s quite belong to the part of “daydream” in their eyes, so i start to re-think about my topic. During the stage 4 lockdown in Victoria, some ideas of mine even can not continue experimenting so I chose to drop off my topic, and chose to do the isolation journal.

I like use my images to explain emotion and shooting some moody pictures but I found most of people always being silence when they look at my images.

Did I direct them too much or showing the surface that they won’t like to talk about? Like Alec Soth the recent work “I Know how Furiously Your Heart is Beating” And i can understand why he hate to take over the model’s real privacy in the artwork. So I decide not to record people for this moment, during this time I would like to film some micro perspective natural view plant. And that’s i think that’s an other layers of self-isolation. Like i admire their freedom and pure.

If my previous work ‘Me and your Shadows’ talking about the relationship distance between me and a person. And this time I think i select to showing the distance between me and the society. I will talk about myself more. solitude, surprise, lost and even happiness during this gap.

In front of a creation every one have their own understanding. I was trying to figure out the meaning of the light and shadows, colour and black and white. At the outset, I be attracted by image healing functionality combined with poetic writing, and which leads me into my direction to create my work. But gradually I found the audience comes from different areas with various cultural background and educational backgrounds with several cognitions.

I decided write some thing down for my new project as a part of mine to help me clean up my mind. I found that I quite enjoy this process to explain myself. A process of self re-examined and re-defined. Also I wrote this poem to one of my friend Dylan who used to be closed and similar to me as a turbine.
